Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 35 minutes

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp vegetable shortening
  • 1.5 cups warm water
  • oil for frying
  • powdered sugar
  • honey

  1. In a deep fryer, heat oil to 375 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in shortening and water. Continue mixing by hand until dough is smooth. Cover bowl with a warm cloth and let side for 20 minutes.
  3. On a floured surface, roll out dough until extremely thin or about 1/8 inch thick. The thinner the better. Cut into three-inch size squares or triangles. Or use a three-inch cookie cutter like I did.
  4. Frying only a couple at a time; fry each side about two minutes or until golden. Drain. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and drizzle with honey. Serve hot. Enjoy!
